Chapel of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno

General information

Iglesia Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
Hermitage next to the Guzmán Tower

Hermitage built between 1592 and 1632 by the master mason Mateo Ariza for the Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno to worship its images.

The carving of the Nazareno dates from 1632 and was commissioned to the master sculptor Francisco de Villegas by the Butler of the Cofradía del Nazareno, Francisco González. It is a polychrome wood carving representing Jesus with the cross. It has been in procession in the town on Holy Thursday since the 17th century, together with the image of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, the author of which is unknown.

Inside this chapel there is a chapel with an altarpiece dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, which dates from 1720 and was paid for by the patron of the arts Miguel Calderón de la Barca.

Worship is also given to the image of San Sebastián, Patrón de la Villa, a carving of great value made by the sculptor Pedro Daín in 1588.
