Historically, agriculture and livestock have been part of the economic engine of Conil, thanks to the favourable temperatures and the perfect location of the area, high quality products can be found.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, Conil's land was traditionally farmed, with cereals, olives and vines being the most important crops.
The area devoted to vine cultivation during the 19th century was very extensive, with many plots of land occupied by fig trees, which, in addition to their fruit, offered natural protection from the winds from the east and west.
During the second half of the 20th century "La Huerta" was born, one of the most representative activities of Conil today, where horticulture is developed on the old pastures of the Villa, Pradillo, Hinojera, El Lanchar, or Las Pamplinas.
Conil's market garden is a local asset, which thanks to the richness of the soil, together with the irrigation system and the climate, produces a wide variety of products, among which the following stand out as autochthonous to the area: tomatoes, beans from Conil, green beans, kidney beans, pumpkins, tender thistles, peas, chard and Roman artichokes; flowers that ennoble the rice, meat, fish and other vegetables.
Nowadays, Conil is a national and international reference point for vegetables thanks to the quality of the products grown on its land, including tomatoes and strawberries.

Useful information: The mosaic of crops is the characteristic agricultural use in Conil. This is a wide expanse of land located mainly in the north-western half of the municipality, in which small plots of traditional market gardens, dry land, fruit orchards and irrigated crops are interwoven. The dry land includes both herbaceous and woody varieties.
