General information

(El Portillo)
This alley, which emerged from a small gate that existed in the medieval wall that surrounded the town, was built at the beginning of the 16th century and constituted the starting point for the road that led from Conil to the town of Chiclana.

In case of threat of enemy attacks these gates were walled up to prevent entrance into the interior of the town.

In 1949, the entire wall and its gates (Puerta de Cádiz, Arco de la Villa and Puerta Moscón) were declared a Good of Cultural Interest. Until today, the original gates are the only entry to the walled enclosure or the old part of town.
